Joyce Ip is a public relations executive with nearly 10 years of PR agency and corporate communications experience focused on building thought leadership and brand awareness for healthcare, medical device and life science companies. With background in both a fast-paced agency setting and in-house on the corporate side, she has an understanding of how to work as an extension of a larger team while managing projects on-time and on-budget.
Joyce is experienced in managing cross-functional teams, vendors and agencies from strategy and materials development, through tactical execution of campaigns. Joyce specializes in project management, marketing communications and media relations with national, professional trade and local market experience. She has implemented effective media campaigns for healthcare, medical device and beauty-related clients around news, data and clinical trial announcements. Her clients have included Active Implants, XPRIZE, TherOx, Penumbra Inc., NIKKISO, Medtronic Diabetes, ZELTIQ, Invisalign and PulsePoint, among others.
Joyce has been with Merryman Communications since 2012. Most recent initiatives include working with physicians and patients to develop content, share success stories and help drive clinical trial enrollment for Active Implants and the first ever “artificial meniscus.” She also served as an onsite project manager for client Medtronic Diabetes, helping to develop educational content for Medtronic global brand ambassadors to ensure cohesive brand and product messaging across internal and external channels.
Previously, Joyce managed and executed all activities relating to marketing communications, brand reputation, strategic planning and social media initiatives for the Nihon Kohden America Patient Monitoring division. She implemented company-wide digital integration by launching a corporate LinkedIn page for recruitment and diverse talent acquisition, as well as established a social media policy and trained all employees on LinkedIn/Twitter engagement. Joyce supported field sales and clinical operations through development of a wide variety of marketing, PR and communications materials and an integrated marketing and tradeshow strategy. Projects under this umbrella included educational tradeshow videos and technology-focused direct mail campaigns to achieve brand awareness and increase U.S. product penetration. While at Nihon Kohden, Joyce developed and launched the first online social community for Nihon Kohden America, at the National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition. The site united nurses, physicians, hospital executives and patients to move healthcare forward through dialogue and understanding about the inseparable nature of quality and hospital economics.
Prior to this, Joyce served as an account executive at Porter Novelli Life Sciences/Canale Communications, specializing in media and investor relations campaigns for biotech companies ranging from start-up through FDA approval and launch. She played an integral role in helping to launch Novalar Pharmaceuticals’ dental anesthetic reversal product at the 144th Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting. Through a national media campaign, the team was able to enhance industry exposure in the top 12 national markets with over 300 print and broadcast placements.
Joyce graduated cum laude from the University of Southern California with a bachelor of arts in communications from the Annenberg School of Communication. She also studied Mandarin Chinese and Chinese Society at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and National Taiwan Normal University.
