Krista Coriaty is a healthcare public relations consultant with over 10 years’ experience working in healthcare marketing, public relations and internal communications. Her expertise includes excellent writing, research and proofreading skills, project management and an ability to translate complex information into easy-to-understand language. Krista began working with Merryman Communications in 2014 on clients including Active Implants, Boston Scientific, Rotation Medical and XPRIZE.
After spending six years in the hospital setting – first at Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s Hospital, then at St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, Calif. – Krista served as a marketing and communications specialist at St. Joseph Health’s system office, where she engaged in projects that advanced the branding, growth and communication strategies of 14 hospitals and several medical groups across Northern and Southern California. There, she developed press releases, newsletter stories, blog posts, marketing plans and branding materials, and she played a significant role in contributing to change management communications across the organization.
Having worked in the hospital and corporate setting, Krista brings a deep knowledge base of the healthcare industry and has partnered with physicians, patients, agencies and front-line staff to promote success stories, research, new technologies and a multitude of programs and services. Highlights of her career include developing a CEO blog and town hall series; managing internal communications during a security crisis; being published in hospital community magazines distributed state-wide; creating an internal communications program adapted by a 14-hospital health system; writing and implementing a communication plan to introduce Population Health Management to employees of a state-wide medical foundation; and receiving the 2013 Values in Action Award (Service) from St. Joseph Health — given to just one person each year selected from a staff of nearly 1,000.
Krista received her bachelor’s degree in journalism/public relations from California State University, Long Beach and her master’s degree in professional communications from California State University, Fullerton (CSUF). During her time at CSUF, she focused her studies on crisis communications. For her thesis project, she conducted research on the topic and developed a pro-bono crisis communication plan for Annunciation Catholic School in Fullerton.
Krista is currently sharing her passion for learning and the communications field by teaching public relations courses at CSULB, including Principles of Public Relations, Written Communication for Public Relations, Strategic Communication for Public Relations and Public Relations Case Studies.
